Kayak the Willamette (Portland)

Planning a kayak/canoe expedition along the Willamette River? First and foremost, check out the Willamette River Water Trail Guide. It gives detailed info on public and private lands, campsites, amenities (very few) and notes about currents and hazards. Keep in mind that changing water levels can impact the island campsites throughout the season. Candiani Bar around mile 58 has ample camping space, and there are several islands with decent campsites for 1 to 2 tents. Sandy areas are hard to come by, as are good places to hang a hammock – so pack a good sleeping pad. Dry firewood is on every island, we never ran out. While the sights are amazing all along the river, my favorite stretches are: between miles 103 and 97ish, mile 80 to mile 72, mile 68 to mile 60ish. Enjoy. - Fellow Adventurist: Bruce Couch (Portland, OR)
