Biking the Beach in Seaside

One of the first things you’ll notice upon arriving to Seaside is the flurry of folks riding around on multi-person bicycles. While we’re fans of biking no matter what the flavor, few things compare to riding along the beach of the Pacific. Bring your own mountain bike or rent a three-wheeled “Slingshot” from Wheel Fun Rentals. Riding on the boardwalk is seriously frowned upon, so get yourself straight to the sand to begin your ride. Head north just past the aquarium and you’ll find the crowd quickly thins to make way for miles of clear beach riding. While this clearly looks like a casual, low effort event, don’t be surprised when you find yourself hungry after an hour of scooting along in the sand. Not to worry, lunch is just across the street from Wheel Fun. Before picking up some saltwater taffy (the quentessential Seaside treat!) drop by Norma’s Ocean Diner for a bowl of their nationally acclaimed clam chowder. With just a bit of zip and loaded with clams and potatoes, its only rival is a plate of their tender fried clam strips. Yum!
