Here come the whales! (Oregon Coast)

Like old relatives heading home after a long holiday visit, the whales will be on the move along the Oregon coast during the week between Christmas and New Years. Trained volunteers for the Whale Spoken Here program will be stationed at 26 prime whale watching sites along the coast. Depoe Bay, Boiler Bay, Rocky Creek, and Cape Ferrelo seem to be hot spots, credited with over a third of the 650 whale sightings during this week last year. Don’t know the difference between a breach and a spyhop? Brush up on your knowledge of the cetaceous lifestyle here before you go – and don’t forget the binoculars.
