Light up your life on the Umpqua
Featured, Oregon Coast — By admin on October 20, 2010 2:36 pm
If in the vicinity of Winchester Bay, venture up the hill to the ol’ Umpqua River Lighthouse and adjacent Coastal History Museum for a tour before the season ends at the end of October! Hear adventurous tales of early keepers, escapades of construction and reconstruction, conflicts with the area’s natives, perils of tragic storms, and learn about its role as the first site designated for a lighthouse in the Oregon Territory. Directly across the street is a viewing platform – especially popular as a whale watching site during March and December. It’s an awesome spot to experience the amazing panorama of the mouth of the Umpqua and unique jetty system, as well as the famous oyster barrel colonies.
