Luna Sea Fish House, Yachats
Adventurist Approved, Food & Drink — By admin on August 7, 2010 2:46 pmIn the tiny fishing village of Yachats, Oregon (population 675) tales of a local commercial fisherman, named Robert Anthony, can be heard. Owner of the Liberty II, a 45-foot double-ender fishing vessel built in 1939, Robert used to catch fish with a hook and line. Since opening a small café where he sold his own fresh catch, he’s earned the title of Village Fish Monger over the years.
That café, Luna Sea Fish House, still sits in the middle of town. In the entry, visitors can find locally harvested fish, whole crabs, shrimp and scallops filling the large glass cases. Overhead, shelves stacked with cans of Luna Sea Fish House tuna (try the alder and hickory smoked!) are proudly labeled Dolphin and Eco System Safe.
Hungry travelers like us are easily lured from the fish case to the dining area by the smell of the homemade clam chowder that fills the air. One glance at the menu and a quick scan of all the clearly satisfied guests, it’s clear the halibut or salmon and chips are among the favorite lunch choices.
Luna Sea, just like its atmosphere, is fresh and local. With its easygoing prices and casual faire, we claim it a must-do for anyone with a seafood crave on. Well worth the drive, you won’t be disappointed. JH
