Beach Bonfires (Garibaldi)

The one good thing about the days getting shorter is that bonfires on the beach become even more fun. Our best bonfires have been on the coast while camping at the Barview Jetty Campground, just off Hwy 101 between Garibaldi and Rockaway Beach. The campground is run by the county, and is clean and decent – but the beach is spectacular in the huge driftwood logs that wash ashore and make excellent bonfire fuel. By twilight a line of small fires dots the shoreline, growing larger by the minute, and by dark the scene is reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings signal fires. Between the rumbling waves, the crackling fire, and plenty of s’mores, it’s an experience not to be missed.
