Early Season Nordic Skiing
Central & East Oregon, Snow Sports — By admin on November 11, 2009 5:17 pm
Through the local grapevine my husband and I heard the cross-country skiing at Mt. Bachelor was already very good. So, early last Sunday we headed for the mountain. I did do some whining about it being too early for snow activities, however, it turned out to be a terrific day. We parked in the Mt. Bachelor parking lot and headed from the Nordic Center down the common corridor towards Dutchman’s Flat (snowmobile’s are no longer allowed there). Fortunately, earlier skiers had cut a nice trail that looped around Dutchman’s Flat and back into the woods. We used our old skis thinking we might run in to obstacles, but we were pleasantly surprised with almost two feet of snow and great early snow conditions. We skied for a couple of hours and meandered our way back through the Mt. Bachelor ski trails. It was a beautiful day: sunshine, glistening snow and no wind. A perfect day in the outdoors, or as we say in Central Oregon, another day in Paradise! Get and and enjoy..
