Flyfishing Hosmer Lake (Bend)

The fishing is fantastic these days on Hosmer Lake, 33 miles from Bend on the Cascade Lakes Highway. On my last trip I caught 6 Atlantic Salmon and had 3 times that number of hits, all on a bead-head flashback hare’s ear. Had 5 bites and 3 fish in the first 15 minutes, and stayed for about 3 hours total. Caught the salmon in that first part of the lake (the water is fairly clear now), dragging two nymphs very slowly, with the flashback as the dropper. Scads of wise brookies are up in the channel on the far end, all of them decent size or larger. I’ve never seen so many there. The Atlantic salmon I caught were 9-12 inches. Still, it beat staying home and cleaning the house. (That’s the understatement of the year! Thanks, Tim!)
