Camping at Four Mile Lake (Klamath Falls)

At the foot of Mt. McLoughlin, in the heart of the Sky Lakes Wilderness Area, sits a treasured destination called Four Mile Lake. The first-come, first-served campground sits on the SW shoreline and has 25 or so sites, with vault toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. While I wouldn’t call it completely rustic, it’s definitely not RV central – and offers no amenities like hot showers, water faucets or paper towels. The mountain vista alone is worth the trip, but if you love to fish, it’s an especially great place to land. The Brook Trout are biting this time of year and they’re pretty good sized, too. The trick to catching them is figuring out a good way to get out on the water. There’s not an especially great boat ramp, so backing up to the water’s edge and dropping in the boat at shoreline is about the best option. I should tell you the lake also seems to get a bit more wind than other places I’ve fished.
