Camp and HIke? Bah! Humbug! (Port Orford)

Humbug Mountain OregonCatch the Humbug Mountain Trailhead at the small parking lot on Hwy 101 or if you’re camping at the Humbug Mountain State Park you can get there by walking through the tunnel under 101. Once you’ve been hiking for a mile or so, the trail splits in two directions. Take either route as it’s really just a loop that follows around the top of the mountain. I’d say it’s a moderate climb, and because the mountain is one of the highest on the coast, there’s generally a good number of other folks on a pilgrimage to the top. Despite a bit of traffic, it’s a great hike loaded with ferns and forest fauna. On the way to the summit peek-a-boo views of the Pacific can be seen through the trees facing west, and the eastern view faces the Coastal Mountain Range. Perhaps the greatest pleasure of the trail is really the accomplishment of looking over all the surrounds. With an elevation of 1756 feet, Humbug dominates the region, and reaching the summit gives one the feeling of conquering the land.
